Photojournalism - chasing Storm Darragh with 21 awesome James Jagger photos (& video).
Photojournalism assignments for James Jagger often involved storm chasing. Being such newsworthy fodder it’d be rude not to. Also, James’ love of windsurfing and watersports palsy into reasons for heading into the melee to document the action. Often at the coast, as was the case with 2024’s Storm Darragh.
Storm Darragh warnings.
Storm Darragh was a unique storm in that it featured ferocious winds from a NW quadrant. Oftentimes winter storms are from the S or SW. Of course, the UK’s weather is anything but predictable!
Darragh also prompted the Met Office to issue a rare red weather warning for parts of Northern Ireland, Wales,Devon and North Cornwall. This doesn’t happen often but predictions for ‘threat to life’ gusts of wind meant Darragh was sure to be an ‘interesting’ one.
James Jagger - ever ready for intrepid photojournalism.
Professional photographer James Jagger had eyed up the weather forecast well in advance. A plan was hatched to make the sojourn down to the south coast and shoot the action at a variety of locations to get a real feel of what havoc Darragh would wreak.
Of course, with one eye on work, the opportunity would also prove fruitful for James’ Alamy Live News Teamwork and capturing a portfolio of images for media sales. And so it proved to be. After an early start and a morning driving between locations around the Birling Gap area a whole raft of superb images were bagged.21 of which you can see, including some behind the scenes pics for good measure.
